Our story

We love sauna.
And what happens
around it.

The heat. The conversation. The quiet on the way home. We’re building KUUME to help more people make sauna part of their lives.

We’re Petter, Marius and Steffen. We live in Oslo, we have kids, and most of our days are logistics.

Sauna is where we get twenty minutes back. A warm room, a little time, and people you’re glad to sit beside.

We want more people to have that, more often. And we want every visit to be as good as it can be.

That starts with a good place to go. There are more of them than you’d think, and the best ones are rarely the easiest to find.

Then someone to go with. The friends you keep meaning to see. Maybe a few you haven’t met yet, because the bench is good at that.

And then the rituals. Heat alone is already plenty. A ritual uses the rest of the room as well: the water on the stones, the scent, the breath, the music.

So that is what we’re building. A guide to saunas worth the trip, a way to go together, and guided sessions for when you’re there. Around it we read the research and write down what we learn.

A home for everyone who loves sauna. Wherever you’re starting from.

What we care about

  • People first.

A suggested time is never a target.

  • Many traditions.

Listen to the people who practice them. Name the place and the voice behind the story.

  • Keep asking.

We can love sauna and be honest about what we still don’t know.

Where we are

In the making.

The first ten rituals are written: five Signatures of our own and five Traditions. Next come the recordings and a careful review. The Study is being edited, source by source. The letter is where we share what we learn along the way.

For sauna masters & hosts

Your way.
Your voice.

We want KUUME to sound like the people who live this culture. We’re starting with invited sauna masters and hosts, building and testing together.
